Rendezvous® Rye is a blend of two exotic straight rye whiskies; one old, and one young. It marries the rich aromatic qualities of a 16-year-old rye with the bold spicy properties of 6-year-old rye to create a full flavored, very complex whiskey. The 6-year-old boasts an uncommonly high 95% rye mash bill. Almost every other straight rye whiskey you can buy today is barely legal, with 51-53% rye in the mash bill. Not Rendezvous® Rye. It honors the way rye whiskey used to be made, with a high rye content and full, uncompromised flavor. With Rendezvous® Rye, you get a taste of authentic rye whiskey. We hope you enjoy it.
DOUBLE RYE!™ - the most excitable member of the High West family - is dedicated to the cowboy in all of us. An unusual shotgun marriage of two rye whiskies from two different distilleries back east, DOUBLE RYE! ™ combines a feisty high rye 2-year-old and a saddle smooth 16-year-old. The younger rye has a mashbill with 95% rye/5% barley malt and the older has a more typical rye mashbill with 53% rye and 37% corn. We think the extra age and increased corn adds just enough caramel sweetness and woody vanilla richness to calm the “bite” of the younger rye for a relationship that works. The resulting combination is bold, balanced, complex and perfect for mixing – we like a DOUBLE RYE! ™ Manhattan. With a taste profile of cinnamon, clove, anise, eucalyptus buttons, evergreen “gin-like” flavors and a vibrant finish, DOUBLE RYE!™ is absolutely superb for sipping alone or sharing with other cowboys and good-looking strangers. High West is Utah’s first distillery since 1870 and the world’s only skiin gastro-distillery. If you find yourself in Old Town Park City, please stop (or ski) by to visit us. We’d love to share our passions with you: the American West, our contemporary Western victuals (pronounced and often mis-spelled “vittles”), American roots music, and of course, pairing all the above with our greatest passion – superb whiskey. Yippee-Yi-yay!
One morning at the Bruichladdich distillery B&B, my wife and I smelled peat in the air - the great ladies that made our meals were simmering a bottle of peated whiskey and sugar! Later that night, they brought out dessert of ripe honeydew drizzled with the peated syrup. That was the most unusual, delicious and memorable ending to a dinner I’ve ever had. The combination of melon and sweet smoke really worked - so (naturally...) I thought why not mix sweet bourbon and peat? The main flavor (or melody) is sweet honey from a ripe bourbon. The enhancing flavor (or harmony) is floral fruity spice from a mature rye whiskey. The accent (Satchmo’s gravelly voice!) is smoke from a peated scotch whisky. The proportions? Top secret.
Son of Bourye
“Bou” for Bourbon and “rye” for rye. One late night my wife and I were playing around with an older whiskey distilled in Lawrenceberg Kentucky (they called us and told us not to use their name!) and a rye from Barton Distillery in Kentucky. The combination was beautiful. That's all I can say. The Son of Bourye® gets its name from High West’s original Bourye®, a blend of straight Bourbon and rye whiskies. As you might expect, Son of Bourye® is made from younger whiskies than the original.
